The use of a coarse BEM mesh to speed up the optimisation process in inverse electrical impedance tomography

چکیده
A reduced model technique based on a coarse boundary element method (BEM) mesh is developed in order to increase the rate of convergence of a genetic algorithm (GA) used for solving a non-destructive evaluation problem. The inverse problem investigated consists of identifying the geometry of discontinuities in a conductive material with isotropic conductivity from Cauchy data measurements taken on the boundary. In this study we use a coarse BEM to provide problem specific information for the GA operators in order to detect efficiently, from a computational time point of view, an isotropic inclusion, such as a circle. The genetic algorithms based method developed is found to be a robust, fast and efficient method for detecting the size and location of subsurface inclusions.

Experimental Validation of Forward and Inverse Solutions for Electrical Impedance Tomography Using the Boundary Element Method
We report on the results of an EIT phantom study using an experimental tank with agar conductivity inhomogeneities, used to verify the accuracy of both a boundary element method (BEM) forward model and a non-linear inverse solution based on the BEM model. We introduce the shunt electrode model into the BEM equations for greater accuracy and derive the associated Jacobian for the inverse problem...
متن کاملAn Automatic Neural-Networks Based Mesh Refinement Method for Electrical Impedance Tomography
In real life applications, inverse problems, such as the electrical impedance tomography problem, usually have a limited accuracy, and require huge computation resources to be solved correctly. In electrical impedance tomography, the goal is to obtain the electrical properties of different materials (typically living tissues) by applying an electrical current and measuring the resulting potenti...
متن کاملFast Finite Element Method Using Multi-Step Mesh Process
This paper introduces a new method for accelerating current sluggish FEM and improving memory demand in FEM problems with high node resolution or bulky structures. Like most of the numerical methods, FEM results to a matrix equation which normally has huge dimension. Breaking the main matrix equation into several smaller size matrices, the solving procedure can be accelerated. For implementing ...
متن کاملA Nodal Jacobian Inverse Solver for Reduced Complexity Eit Reconstructions
Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) uses surface electrodes to make measurements from which an image of the conductivity distribution within some medium is calculated. Calculation of conductivity solutions requires inverting large linear systems that have to date restricted reconstructions to 2D or coarse 3D domains. This paper presents a Nodal Jacobian Inverse Solver that scales with the num...
متن کاملStudy of the Boundary Element Method for the Direct Problem of Electrical Impedance Tomography
The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the development of a reconstruction method for the electrical impedance tomography (EIT) problem using the boundary element method (BEM). The idea is to adopt BEM to improve the performance of the solution of the direct problem. The EIT problem is generally formulated as an inverse problem and the approach to its solution consists in minimizi...
